Translation and Commentary

Aristotle, The Politics. Translated with an introduction by Carnes Lord. (Chicago, 1984). An admirable translation, remarkably close to the Greek but still very readable.

W. L. Newman, The Politics of Aristotle, 4 vols. (Oxford, 1887-1902). A massive critical commentary that has never been equaled. See especially his discussion of Aristotle and Greek democracy in vol. 4, pages xxxvi-lxi.
